Ukraine Locks in Deal to Purchase Rafale Fighter Jets from France

(MENAFN) In a significant escalation of its military modernization push, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Monday that Kyiv has formally moved to purchase 100 Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft under a new agreement concluded with French President Emmanuel Macron.

“Ukraine has just placed a historic order for 100 Rafale fighter jets to equip its army,” Zelenskyy told journalists after the two leaders endorsed a declaration of intent at the Villacoublay airbase near Paris, according to a state news agency.

The document is designed to deepen defense cooperation between the two nations as Ukraine continues to reinforce its air capabilities amid ongoing security pressures.

Zelenskyy traveled to France following a stop in Athens, where gas companies from Ukraine and Greece signed a letter of intent to secure liquefied natural gas supplies from the US for the upcoming winter season.

The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to continue his diplomatic tour with a visit to Spain on Tuesday.
